Shifting gears, new inquiry
I’ve decided to switch my inquiry project from learning French, to learning Piano. For my inquiry, I will be attempting to learn the linked song below over the course of the semester. I am starting from a base of little to no experience on the piano, while I did take piano lessons for about a year when I was around 8 or 9, I will essentially be learning from ground 0. Very excited about this learning journey! To achieve my goal, I am committing to practicing for ideally 15 minutes daily. To track my progress, I will upload a video of where I’m at with the song once per week. I will first print the sheet music, then go on to learn how to read it, then begin practicing.
I decided to commit to 15 minutes per day because this is the recommendation from the Muzart Music and Art School, located in Ontario. This school recommends for beginners 15-30 minutes / day, with 30 minutes broken down into the following parts…
- 5 minutes for warm up
- 10 minutes for technique work
- 10 minutes for repoitoire
- 5 minutes for fun play
While I’d love to commit to 30 minutes each day, I anticipate my time to practice over the term will get shorter as the assignments begin to pile on, so committing to 15 minutes is a reasonable benchmark I can achieve.
